can someone provide me with lesson plans for first graders about the food pyramid/diet that will be fun and entertaining for them?

Kids in first grade learn better through active learning and hands on materials.
You can show them a teacher made food pyramid and discuss the difference between healthy and “junky” food.
Encourage the children to work collaboratively with magazines, to cut out pictures of healthy and non healthy foods – and glue them on a piece of oak tag divided into a healthy and “junky” column.
Pick up books on nutrition from your local library. Some good, fun books on nutrition are: DW is a picky eater, I am never not going to eat a tomato, Kids are eaters too….etc…
If you have housekeeping centers bring in milk crates of plastic food items (can be borrowed from your kindergarten/preschool classes) and have the children make plates of healthy breakfasts, lunches and dinners.
Have the children keep a food diary for 2 days. Discuss and graph with the class.
Lastly, actually make a healthy fruit salad or vegetable salad with the children. Explain how fruits/veggies are good fuel for their bodies.
Have fun! (-:

Learn to use search engines for this kind of stuff.
Kids can cut pictures out papers & magazines,
then glue them on cards or make a pyramid.
Might be nice to have samples of food they can eat too.
